The Golden Retriever is considered the glamour dog of all retrievers, a powerful, active dog, sound and very well put together, not clumsy or long in the leg. With his great poise, good looks, and demeanor, he does exceptionally well at dog shows. His personality is eager, alert, self confident, always displaying a kindly expression. He is very friendly towards people and other dogs in normal situations, but but should never show timidity or nervousness.
Golden Retrievers, as well as being a gentle-mouthed breed, are very intelligent and excel in obedience. He is exceptional as a guide dog too, but it is as a family pet and his fondness of children, that this breed has gained his renown. Golden Retriever puppies enjoy being socialized and they do well with training. He needs regular combing to minimize shedding. Give him a home in the suburbs or country where he can get lots of wanted exercise.
